HOUSING PROGRAMS

Shawnee Development Council, Inc. operates housing programs in the seven southernmost Illinois counties.  The program objective is to help ensure safe, decent and affordable housing for individuals whose income is 60% or below the median income for their county of residence. 

The program has constructed five new homes.  Two are located in Massac County, two in Johnson County, and one in Pulaski County.  All five have been sold to eligible low-income home buyers.  The program has also purchased a foreclosure home in Johnson County that has been remodeled and sold.   Plans are being made for the construction of a second home in Pulaski county. 

The agency also has a Housing Preservation Grant funded by U.S.D.A. Rural Development.  This home rehabilitation program works in partnership with the Weatherization program to make needed home repairs before the actual weatherization work is completed.
